I am mostly a fly fishing guy (trout), but my daughter who has been learning to fish, lives in an area where it's mostly bass fishing, So I went to the Sportsman's Warehouse and the sales person showed me a lot of reels. But the Pflueger President was on sale, and it was really nice. He also showed me the President XL. And yes, there's a difference. There are more ball bearings in the XL, and you can feel the difference; as smooth as silk. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but if you're in the market for a nicer reel, I personally recommend you consider the XL.

I bought this last year and absolutely love it!! My ONLY little complaint is that if you accidentally reel backwards a little bit the reel handle starts to unscrew. Other than that this thing is indestructible! I bought it along with a medium light President Spinning rod, they make a deadly combo. If I was to change one thing from my combo it would've been a medium rod not medium light, but anyway, this is the best reel EVER and for only $75!! %100 recommend!!!
